A shortcut method for multiplication has been given in the picture with step wise explanation.

Sometimes time will take when solving multiplication with 11 number by the normal method. Using shortcut method, a non-background  mathematical candidates also will learn quickly.

Shortcut method for multiplication of a number with 11 in competitive exams!

Example-I
345 x 11 = ?

Step-I: ____5

Multiply the third digit of the first number with the second digit of the second number.
i.e. 1 x 5 = 5
Write 5 as the final answer the last digit from the right side.

Step-II: ___95

In this step main trick should be implemented.
Add the last digit of the first number with the second digit of the first number

4  + 5 = 9

Write 9 as final answer second digit from the right side.

Step-III: _795

Now add the second digit of the first number with the first digit of the first number

3  + 4 = 7
Write 7 as final answer third digit from the right side.

Step-IV: 3795

Now multiply the third digit of the first number with the second digit of the second number
3 x 1 =3
Write 3 as final answer

Now the final answer is 3795

Note: when adding the digits in the first number. if the answer is double digit number, remember the first digit in mind for further calculation. That number can be added to the next one.

Example-II:

273.9 x 1.1 = ?

Step-I: _____9

Multiply the fourth digit of the first number with the second digit of the second number.
i.e. 9 x 1 = 9
Write 9 as the final answer the last digit from the right side.

Step-II: ____.29

Add the fourth digit of the first number with the third digit of the first number

9  + 3 = 12
Remember 1 in mind for further calculation.
Write 2 as final answer second digit from the right side.

Step-III: __1.29

Now add the third digit of the first number with the second digit of the first number. And add remembered number (1) for the result.

3  + 7 = 10 + 1(Remembered number)
          = 11
Remember 1 in mind for further calculation.

Write 1 as final answer third digit from the right side.

Step-IV: _01.29
Now add the second digit of the first number with the first digit of the first number. And add remembered number (1) for the result.
7 + 2 = 9 + 1 (Remembered number)
         = 10
Remember 1 in mind for further calculation.

Write 0 as final answer fourth digit from the right side.

Step-V: 301.29

Now multiply the first digit of the first number with the first digit of the second number. And add the remembered number to this result.
2 x 1 = 2 + 1 (Remembered number)
Write 3 as final answer

Note: When multiplying with a decimal number, decimal point should be placed after counting to the total digits from the  given multiplication problem.

In this case (273.9 x 1.1) total digits are two after counting of the decimal points from the both number.

So the final answer is 301.29
